David Tennant

Nothing remains of my comments on the first two series, but this snippet from 03/07/07 (after series 3 ended) summed things up...

I wasn't keen on Eccleston straight away but by the end of the first episode I was happy with the whole set up for the return (I was happy with Billie almost straight away though). I dreaded the arrival of Tennant after seeing clips of Casanova (clips that gave me no interest in watching the actual show at all, so I didn't). I really liked Eccles by the end and was really annoyed that he quit (or was booted, whichever version you prefer) but Tennant fitted in brilliantly. I'll be sad to see him go but the timing is probably right for the show's sake. RTD being the chief writer potentially means that his departure could affect the Doctor's character but a new Doctor with his own style would more easily suit a new era for the show with no questions of continuity. Looking at IMDB, although we've said that Tennant hasn't lasted very long, he'll have done about the same as the last three Doctors (episode counts vary but they were all three years)

Now turn it around... I've felt a little sick when I've seen old clips of Eccleston recently. As if he was never right for it. Maybe seeing whole episodes will be OK but he's been coming across as just a bit  in very brief moments.

When do the rumour mills start churning out 'Who will be the next Doctor?'
