Series 5 (2010)

I wasn't on the forum for much of this year so most of my comments and reviews were somewhat belated. This was my initial response to the new theme tune though:

One very quick post while I'm here then I'll add my views on the whole lot another time

The new music... It's grown on me very quickly. On second viewing I realised the only problem is the string intro. It's not necessary. After four or five goes I'm more used to it but it's twice as long as it should be. Extending this logic, by the end of the series It will sound perfect!

The visuals that go with it are very slick though Wasn't sure the first time but that's because everything was new. I saw they were dark and slick and was too distracted by the music to form an opinion but I do like them

Overall though, loving it. Few stumbling points but I love Doctor Who so I don't care

Episode 1: The Eleventh Hour

Starting with a clever punning title to introduce the eleventh Doctor... corny perhaps but applicable to the story. It seems that nearly everyone's fears about meeting the new Doctor were washed away with this. A very successful series opener that put the show back on track after a year of tripping over specials and not knowing what was happening.

Episode 2: The Beast Below

This episode passed by with no comment at all! In a way it followed as a second part to the introductions as we got to know Amy better.

Episode 3: Victory of the Daleks

Mixed opinions, quite understandably... 1940s England in the blitz, there were spitfires, the Daleks were back, and they had a make-over...

Episodes 4 & 5: The Time Of Angels / Flesh And Stone

The long awaited return of both the Weeping Angels and mysterious River Song. Little was said on the forum but everyone was feeling more at ease and pleased that the writing was back on track

Episode 6: The Vampires Of Venice

Not a successful episode for a lot of people and very little was said on the forum. I didn't have a great deal to add either, but I was also trying to catch up on my reviews before the series reached its climax!

Episode 7: Amy's Choice

Discussion was wearing thin on the forum now...

Episodes 8 & 9: The Hungry Earth / Cold Blood

Some impressive prosthetics get slightly overlooked in this review. Let's face it, they looked amazing!

Episode 10: Vincent And The Doctor

I didn't really enjoy this one at all. However, someone else on the forum loved it and went into great depth about why. He wrote more than any of my reviews and it his passion got me thinking. Maybe I was wrong. My views softened before I wrote my re view, but even after a third or fourth viewing I'm still not keen on it.

Episode 11: The Lodger

Passed by without mention on the forum despite featuring the brilliant James Corden and being a reasonably weak episode. I thought somebody would have said something.

Episode 12: The Pandorica Opens

A return to Steven Moffat as writer got everyone excited and fired up for the big finish

Episode 13: The Big Bang

The series did indeed end with a bang. A big bang. Matt Smith had suggested in an interview that someone was returning this week, there was a suggestion that it was young Amelia and a hope that it wasn't Cpt. Jack... Yet, despite anticipation and excitement on the forum, once the episode aired nobody said a word about it! Admittedly it was a month before I wrote anything myself...

Christmas 2010: A Christmas Carol

Another Christmas episode, another delayed write up... but I got there eventually! The lack of Amy didn't go down well even if guest star Katherine Jenkins did. Possibly one of the better Christmas stories but still put down by a lot of people...
