Series 6 (2011)

Writing this on Friday 26 August 2011, the new series is set to continue tomorrow after a break through the summer. A split that was not received kindly when first announced but I think was worth it. The series so far has been full of drama and excitement, suggestions and questions, far too much to take in and still flow into the second half. So much in fact that my reviews became rather large and there was much discussion and speculation along the way. I may need to edit them down, or I might struggle to cover the speculation completely...

Episode 1: The Impossible Astronaut

Three days before the series opened, we heard the very sad news that Elisabeth Sladen had died. The world of Doctor Who was rocked to its knees. A huge loss to so many people (I think something for the future of this site will be to include character/actor tributes of some form so watch out for that!) but the show had to go on.

Episode 2: Day Of The Moon

Unusual to start on a two part story but it set up so much more that would run through the first half of the series and beyond (still to be answered of course!) This series was already looking very big...

Episode 3: The Curse Of The Black Spot

An episode that appears to have universally panned! I think it was at this point that my reviews and comments really became critical reviews. For once there was actually something negative to say rather than just a passing "xyz wasn't so good but it was OK". As I said shortly after, it's hard to say it was a bad episode when it looked so good and the cast were brilliant but... I'd say it's the weakest Matt Smith episode so far (I know I didn't like "Vincent And The Doctor" and wasn't keen on "Vampires Of Venice" but at least they had some... something!)

Episode 4: The Doctor's Wife

With previous predictions regarding River Song, this episode was eagerly anticipated from the moment it's title was announced and with Neil Gaiman as the writer it was going to be a top piece of sci-fi... and indeed it was very well received!

Episodes 5 & 6: The Rebel Flesh / The Almost People

Practically no discussion on these two episodes

Episode 7: A Good Man Goes To War

As would appear normal, this finalé (albeit mid series) was followed by silence on the forum! Never fear, however, I soon made up for that :D

Part 2

This series was broadcast in two stages. In the time between the two, I managed to catch up with my reviews so the second halve was reviewed live and can be found HERE
